A missing cat has been reunited with its owners two months after it disappeared at the Dubai airport.
The missing Ragdoll cat called Dinky was supposed to return to the United Kingdom in July with its owners, Ian and Susan Lees, after a five-year stay in Dubai. Upon arrival at London’s Gatwick Airport, Dinky’s animal carrier turned out to be empty and the cat was nowhere in sight. The owners suspected that Dinky got out of its cage before boarding time.
Two months without a word on Dinky’s whereabouts, Ian flew back to Dubai to continue the search. He declared that he would give a $1,300 reward to anyone who finds Dinky. His Dubai-based daughter, Donna, also launched a social media campaign to track down the cat.
Three weeks later, a woman who saw the online campaign found Dinky in Al Barsha, a community 20 miles away from the airport. She took Dinky to an animal shelter where its identity was confirmed by its microchip.
Ian and Dinky returned to the United Kingdom on September 30. Before leaving, Ian decided to donate the $1,300 reward to veterinary clinics dedicated to rescuing stray cats in the United Arab Emirates.
The Lees family is currently settling in Northamptonshire, England. According to Ian, finding a lost pet after months was near to impossible.
Recently, Jim Gardiakos from Australia also reunited with his pet dog, Mia, seven years after it went missing. Mia disappeared while playing in Jim’s front yard. Gardiakos said that he almost lost hope before receiving a call from Melbourne’s Central Animal Records last September. He was told that Mia’s identity was confirmed after having its microchip scanned at a veterinary.
