Google has announced that it is reviving its photo printing service on Google Photos.
Called the Premium Print Series, the service underwent a trial period that ended in June. In October, Google revived the service and officially launched it for users in the United States. The service leveraged feedback from the trial so that users could have more control over the prints they receive and how they appear.
The Premium Print Series uses an AI program to choose and print subscribers’ 10 best photos for $6.99 every month. The photos can be delivered to a subscriber’s home or arranged for same-day pickup at CVS Pharmacy, Walmart, or Walgreens locations. Users have the option to skip a month of their subscription or cancel it completely if they no longer need it.
Through the Google Photos app, users can edit which photos are selected and customize them before they are printed and shipped. Subscribers can have the photos printed on matte cardstock or premium glossy photo paper. They also have the option to convert the photos into postcards.
In addition to its printing service, Google Photos is also offering canvas prints and photo books with up to 140 pages.
Industry experts commented that the service was launched at a time when there are limited chances for people to take photos, as the pandemic has hindered them from traveling and attending events. However, with the Premium Print Series, users can reminisce about fond memories from pre-pandemic times that they captured on film. It also comes in time for the holidays, when people will be sending cards to family and friends.
