Ben Wood (interview): “The mobile phone market is particularly challenging right now because it’s dominated by two big players, Apple and Samsung. If you’re a smaller player with lower volumes, you’ve got to find some ways to innovate and add some differentiation to your device. And that’s one of the themes that we’re seeing here at MWC from some of those players.”

[Ran Sun, Product Portfolio Manager, Huawei, demonstrating Huawei Mate60 RS photography capabilities]
Ran Sun (interview): “We just had a demo showing the super telemacro capability, and that’s made possible because of the lens group of this telephoto camera. You see, normally on any smartphones, the telephoto lens focuses on a certain distance, and when you go really close to an object, you won’t be able to focus that much. But with this, we put two lens groups inside a camera module, which can change their position relatively, which makes the camera capable of taking photos anywhere from five centimetres to infinity.”

Ran Sun (interview): “Unfortunately, it’s currently only available in the Chinese market, which makes the showing of this phone a unique circumstance by chance, because here in the European market, consumers will first be able to hold one of these phones in their hand. And who knows, if they like the product, we may carry it to later in the region.”

Sulaiman Al Ali (interview): “Skyphone, it’s unique because it’s offering an extension of a network without the hassle of going through the terrestrial network. So whenever you are on your GSM network, whenever you are in the city, you can enjoy having the 5G connectivity and whenever you want to just launch your next adventure, you can go without even thinking about having a connectivity, because your phone has a satellite connectivity that will give you any sort of connectivity: to reach out to your family, in case of emergency, in case of just telling everybody about what kind of adventure you are going through. So you are connected anywhere. And this is why we are saying that you always have the sky. So wherever you can reach the sky, you can have your connectivity.”

Sulaiman Al Ali (interview): “You are going to the sea. You are going to the desert. You are going to the mountain. So all of these adventures, wherever you go, you have that connectivity. But the extra thing is that even we saw it in some major cities where the network is very mature, but because of the congestion, you have that connectivity. In case of any natural disasters that happen, again you have your phone, you can rely on that phone. You can say that, ok, the connectivity is available, but you do not know at what time you will need that extra insurance.”
