UNDERSTAND

SPEAKING

Toru is having a video call with his manager, who’s back in the US.

Manager:

Toru, I just want to know how things are going in France. Is everything okay there?

Toru:

It’s all good. Work is going well, and we haven’t had any problems communicating with the staff here.

Manager:

Really? Well, that’s not what I heard. I received a few messages from other staff saying that you’re not performing as well as you used to. People there told me that you and Holly had an argument during a sales meeting yesterday. I also heard that people are now taking sides and calling themselves “Team Toru” or “Team Holly.” What’s going on? You and Holly are both professionals—I’ve never had a problem like this with either of you. You’re supposed to be working together as a team!

Toru:

I apologize. To be honest, um… The two of us are not exactly okay.

Manager:

Couples fight, I get that. But you can’t bring personal issues to work. Have a heart-
to-heart
with Holly if you must, but not at the office.

Toru:

Okay, I’ll do that. And I promise I won’t let this happen again.

TRIVIA

People often use the phrase Team [character’s name] to show support for their favorite movie or TV show character. This happens especially when two characters have a rivalry, like Harry and Draco or Thor and Loki.
