Kenya’s wildlife spaces are shrinking, even though the country earns a lot from wildlife tourism. Experts say animals are losing their homes because of climate change and destructive human activities. However, wildlife corridors, or paths that connect animals’ natural homes, can help. These corridors let animals move freely and avoid conflicts with people, which helps wildlife grow.
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a group in Nairobi, is helping with this issue. It is buying land to connect Mount Kenya to the northern lands so animals can travel safely. Lewa protects Kenya’s rhinos, elephants, lions, and zebras. The number of these animals grew a lot with the group’s help. But as their population grows, they need more space. More effort is needed to protect their homes and make corridors for them.
The number of animals is successfully increasing. However, Kenya’s population is growing fast, which may cause problems. To help, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is encouraging landowners to open wildlife corridors. KWS says human activities are stopping animals from moving freely. Additionally, animals can’t move safely because buildings and roads block their paths.
